Meaningful participation. Communication in Action. Real Connection.
Voice Your Choice (VYC) is a community participation program developed and operated by Therapeutic Language Clinic (TLC).
VYC's primary purpose is to promote social participation, foster meaningful relationships, encourage self-directed choice, and support community inclusion for adults with developmental disabilities. The program is designed to provide opportunities for friendship, shared interests, and community engagement, rather than to deliver speech-language pathology, occupational therapy, or any other medically necessary therapeutic intervention.
TLC operates from a 5,000-square-foot facility in Fair Oaks, California, with two separate entrances and program areas. One side of the building is dedicated exclusively to clinical services, including speech-language and occupational therapy. The opposite side is dedicated to community participation programming, including Voice Your Choice.
The two areas function independently and are connected only by a hallway leading to shared restroom facilities. This physical separation reinforces the distinction between therapeutic clinical services and community participation activities.
Voice Your Choice was designed to provide adults with developmental disabilities opportunities to develop friendships, explore personal interests, make choices, and participate in meaningful social experiences within a supportive peer environment. Participants are grouped according to shared interests and personal preferences so they can build relationships with individuals with whom they feel comfortable and connected.

1. Discover
Participants work together during the first session to identify common and decide what they would like to explore over the coming weeks. This process emphasizes self-direction, choice-making, collaboration, and peer interaction.
2. Immerse
Over the next four to five weeks, participants engage in activities centered around their selected topic. The duration and pace are adjusted based on the group's interests, participation, and natural group dynamics rather than therapeutic objectives
3. Generalize
The group concludes by sharing their project or participating in a community-based experience. Examples include creating and sharing a music playlist, hosting an art exhibit, planning and holding a social party, or participating in another community activity that reflects the group's shared interests.
…………
The purpose of this phase is to encourage community inclusion, confidence, social participation, and enjoyment—not to remediate speech, language, or motor deficits.
Voice Your Choice is intended to:
While participants naturally communicate with peers during activities, any communication that occurs is incidental to social interaction and community participation.
The Voice Your Choice program does not provide the following:
There are no individualized therapy goals, clinical evaluations, treatment plans, or therapy documentation associated with Voice Your Choice.
Voice Your Choice is a Community Participation/Social Recreation Program whose primary purpose is increasing opportunities for social connection, community engagement, and quality of life for adults with developmental disabilities.
