Feeding therapy helps people develop healthy eating habits and improve their mealtime experiences. At TLC, our team of licensed Speech-Language Pathologists and Occupational Therapists use a variety of approaches, including (but not limited to) the Sequential-Oral-Sensory (SOS) Approach, to help assess and treat those with troubles related to feeding.
We treat these difficulties using individualized blends of sensory, motor and cognitive techniques, all while making sure therapy sessions are fun! Parent training is a large component of our work; families will feel a true connection to their therapist and learn effective ways to decrease stress around mealtimes. Look no further than TLC for the most impactful feeding therapy around!
Our therapists utilize many different techniques to attain successful feeding skills, including the Sequential-Oral-Sensory (SOS) Approach. Developmental levels, sensory needs, oral skills, family dynamics and communication are all considered, while teaching the clients and their caregiving team to release fear around meals via play and exploration.
A weak oral mechanism (e.g.: jaw, tongue, lips, swallow reflex) can cause myriad difficulties, including food pocketing, saliva loss, and choking. Left unchecked, these difficulties can lead to fear and avoidance, perceived pickiness, weight loss and heightened stress around mealtimes.
Our therapists have deep tool kits filled with immense knowledge, creative expertise and effective resources. We use client strengths, preferences and learning styles to build skills in fun ways that really make a difference.
We help families strategize bottle weaning, how to progress to the next stage of feeding development, ways to keep the child at the table for longer times and how to increase food variety and intake.
