Meet Emily! Director of TLC and a practicing Speech-Language Pathologist with 25+ years of experience working with individuals with disabilities, she strives to enhance confidence in, and awareness of, communication in all its various forms through the use of heartfelt, holistic, family-centered approaches. Her Floortime/DIR therapeutic approach combines with a plethora of training to assist those struggling with language disorders, childhood apraxia of speech, poor social skills, oral motor delays and/or the need for augmentative and alternative communication, making her a well-rounded therapist who is able to find a way to help each client meet their goals. On her downtime, she enjoys art, yoga, gardening and playing with her dogs and chickens. Emily can be described as creative, compassionate, energetic, insightful, and an out-of-the-box-thinker!
Meet Maria! Our amazing office administrator was invaluable in founding this new business, with an unbreakable drive to keep our family of therapists together and the services in place for our clients. She really enjoys helping generalize therapeutic goals in her interactions with them and observing the networking that families do in the waiting room. Maria is fluent in Spanish and is quite helpful in supporting communication between parents and clinicians. A former preschool teacher with a degree in Child Development, Maria is a helpful spirit who loves spending her downtime outdoors with her husband and dogs. Maria can be described as dependable, organized, caring, a great listener and having an impressive memory!
Meet Larissa! An excellent speech therapist and the head of our SOS-based feeding therapy department, she loves to work with a wide variety of disorders and ages, especially language delays, swallowing and feeding disorders, oral motor difficulties, childhood apraxia of speech and early intervention clients. Larissa combines her resourcefulness and imagination to create interesting activities and effect the greatest change in her clients. Her honesty and knowledge are impressive. On her downtime, you can find Larissa spending time with her family, traveling, playing games and dancing. She also has a particular affinity for goats. Larissa can be described as motivated, inquisitive, energetic, kind and imaginative!
Meet Julie! The head of our occupational therapy department, and an extremely helpful and knowledgeable person, Julie is an amazing OT and SOS-trained feeding therapist. She loves working with kids and helping people overcome obstacles in order to become more independent in their daily lives. She enjoys meeting fine motor and self-help goals, but also likes to incorporate postural control strategies and exercises into every possible activity and routine, as it is a foundation for such a wide variety of skills. On her downtime, Julie spends time with her family and pets, including facilitating extracurricular fun with her daughter. Julie can be described as hard-working, intelligent, consistent, calm and articulate!
Meet Kristine! A phenomenal speech-language assistant with almost two decades of experience and now a master’s degree in counseling, Kristine has invaluable experience working with people with special needs in a variety of environments and capacities. She seeps with compassion and understanding for all of her clients and their families! Her favorite things to work on in therapy include emotional regulation and behavior, and she just loves those with introverted personalities. Her downtime is spent with friends and family, going on walks and journaling. Kristine can be described as compassionate, kind, understanding, fun and super helpful!
Meet Jennifer! Both an experienced special-education teacher and RESNA certified assistive technology professional, she skillfully uses this knowledge to create educational materials that support both the AAC user and communication partner. These materials span across assisting communication partners to model for the AAC user for a variety of communication functions, and to also directly teach AAC users literacy skills. Jennifer has a passion for assisting people with significant disabilities to access AAC through alternative access methods. It is Jennifer’s desire to enhance the quality of life for ALL individuals with communication and assistive technology needs. On her downtime, you can find Jennifer playing with her dog, Pretzel, or hanging with her three adult children. Jennifer can be described as intelligent, resourceful, helpful, kind and determined!
Meet Melissa! With experience as an SLPA in private practice as well as in the school setting, Melissa is happiest to work her magic here at TLC. Her parents work in special education and operate a non-public school, which is where she was introduced to, and fell in love with, the field of speech-language pathology. She loves that building strong communication skills benefits ALL areas of an individual’s life and helps to develop a strong sense of self. Her favorite things to work on in therapy include functional communication, receptive and expressive language, social language and self-advocacy. On her downtime, she likes cooking, hiking and loving on her pets. Melissa can be described as warm, empathetic, bubbly, curious, and encouraging!
Meet Pretzel! This sweet spirit graces TLC’s halls once or twice a week, and he is not the only one who dances with joy over it! Usually found participating in team meetings or clinical sessions, Pretzel brings a calming energy and very silky fur to every situation. He loves the energy of our clients and is always up for helping someone overcome their fears. On his downtime, you can find Pretzel asking for treats or hanging with his favorite humans. Pretzel can be described as sweet, gentle, patient, calm and soft!
